The first Cheese Days Parade was in 1915.

Welcome to FutureForward Green County! Hopefully you saw us at the Cheese Days Parade . –one of our greatest traditions, which has been going on for over 90 years! Cheese Days only happens every two years, but there are great things happening in Green County all the time …

Green County has plenty more in store for you!

Imagine living in a community with non-stop excitement. You’ll find it here. Halloween Weekend 2008 brings us this first-ever event –  Autumn Swing Dance.  Come dance the night away so years from now you can say you were at the first one.  Whether it is our annual sky-filling Balloon Rally, pioneering Depot Days, or colorful, family-fun Heidi and William Tell Festivals;

Green County really is a great place to visit and to live.

Future Forward! Green County was formed to help get that message out and help ensure the future is bright for Green County, its' communities and surrounding area.  Four main groups have formed to help guide this effort.

Leadership Group

This dynamic group serves to provide overall strategy and vision of the FF! initiative.  The Leadership Group coordinates the different sub-groups or projects that may be happening at any one time and makes sure everyone is moving toward a common goal.

Boomerang Group

This group is working to decrease “brain-drain” away from Green County and bring back home former residents to Green County.  A secondary goal of of the group is getting new people to move into the county.  (A “Boomeranger” is a person who returns to their home area after being away for several years)

Community Liaison Group

The Liaison group is to engage the many great groups and efforts that already exist in the county and assist to make sure everyone is moving toward the same goal of helping the county.  The group also coordinates efforts between groups for maximum efficiency.

The Future Forward! Green County initiative kicked off in late 2007 with a speech and community discussion led by Rebecca Ryan of Madison's Next Generation Consulting.  Ryan discussed seven indexes that factor into gen-x and millennial generation decisions (whether conscious or subconscious) about where to live and work. They include: earning potential, learning potential, vitality (quality of life), after-hours offerings, cost of lifestyle, around town (proximity to important places),  and social capital (community diversity and level of citizen engagement). Future Forward! Green County is working to better understand how Green County currently measures up against these indices and how we, as a community, can work together to address shortcomings and secure a better future for the Green County area.
